President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday, May 30 attended the National Prayer Breakfast meeting at Safari Park Hotel.

The Head of State and his deputy were seen walking while having a chat as the National Prayer Breakfast kicked off.

President Ruto and Gachagua were accompanied by their spouses First Lady Rachel Ruto and Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

In their company was speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and other leaders.

Speaking during the event, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua cracked up guests at the National Prayer breakfast as he narrated the ‘pressure’ President William Ruto brought to Kenyan homes during his US state visit.

Gachagua said during the visit, Ruto held First Lady Rachel Ruto’s hand everywhere he went, a move Gachagua said led to Kenyan women demanding the same.

The DP said his spouse, Pastor Dorcas, demanded that he emulate the President.

“Allow me as a truthful man to tell you the truth. All Kenyans were monitoring you. There was something you did that created problems for the men.

“Our spouses were demanding that we emulate the President and hold their hands wherever they go,” Gachagua said.

He went on to say that Pastor Dorcas demanded that they hold hands even when in the house and when walking outside.

The Deputy President joked that it was the same case for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Gachagua, however, said that upon return to Kenya, he has since rectified that and no longer holds the First Lady’s hand.

He said the pressure has gone down given that he walked to the National Prayer Breakfast without holding the first lady’s hand.

“To Pastor Dorcas, all is not lost, when we go to the US, I will hold your hand, but when we come back let us continue with our lives,” Gachagua said.

The DP further joked that Ruto has been summoned by the ‘Men’s Conference’ to answer for his actions.

During Ruto’s state visit, Ruto holding Mama Rachel’s hand is one act that stood out in all official ceremonies.

The National Prayer Breakfast which is sponsored by the Kenyan Parliament, and organized with the help of volunteers from the small prayer breakfast groups, is traditionally held on the last Thursday in May.

The purpose of the National Prayer Breakfast is to meet, engage, interact, and together pray for the nation in the company of fellow leaders from all sectors of society.
