PSC grants new MPs Sh10 million for medical cover

PSC (Parliamentary Service Commission) grants new MPs and their dependents Sh10 million for medical cover.

The enhanced medical coverage, which is now available to newly elected MPs and their dependents, provides up to Sh10.65 million in coverage for treatment related to political violence, coups, war, and terrorism.

According to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) medical plan, each of the new MPs and up to six dependents are each entitled to Sh10 million in inpatient medical coverage, Sh300,000 in outpatient medical coverage, Sh150,000 in maternity coverage, Sh100,000 in dental and optical coverage, and Sh100,000 in last-expense coverage.

“This is extended to provide medical treatment and last expense benefit in the event of injury or death caused by…rebellion, revolution, insurrection, political risks, terrorism, sabotage or military or usurped power,” the PSC medical scheme cover provided by AON Minet states.

The MPs will, however, not be covered if they directly or actively engage in acts of political violence, war-like activities, and terrorism.

The medical scheme also provides treatment and last expense in the event an MP is injured by violent external and visible means arising from war, invasion, an act of a foreign enemy, hostilities, or war such as operations and civil war.

The program offers flexible and all-inclusive hospitalization coverage, which covers hospital costs, physician fees, intensive care unit (ICU) or high dependency unit (HDU), and theater costs, as well as costs for medications, X-rays, and ultrasounds, among other things.

The coverage includes a maximum daily rate of Sh45,000 for a private room for MPs and their dependents.
