Raila is a master tactician of political reinvention according to analysts warning that his latest moves could stun supporters

Raila is a master tactician of political reinvention according to analysts warning that his latest moves could stun supporters.

Veteran politician Raila Odinga has always changed depending on the situation from a ferocious government critic to a key pillar, but his most recent actions might surprise his supporters.

Critics assert that months after losing the August presidential election, Raila Odinga may be preparing a political agreement with William Ruto.

Political ceasefires have played an important role in Raila’s political career, from the era of president Daniel Moi to that of Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.

Throughout his decades-long career, he has been a fiery opposition politician, with the exception of a few occasions when he declared a truce with opponents.

And barely three months after the Supreme Court upheld the victory of President William Ruto, Raila kicked off 30-day ‘consultative engagements’ with Kenyans

Raila presented a list of demands he expects Ruto to meet in his first public appearance on December 7; failure to do so would have consequences.

He attacked Ruto, saying that he had abandoned his campaign platform.

Speaking to local media, political analyst Fred Sasia termed Raila as a master of political reinvention.

“When everyone believes his fate has been decided, he bounces back with a survival strategy and it always works. His puzzling and inexplicable politics keeps him afloat in all political seasons,” he said.

He claimed that by simply reminding people of what the government is not doing for them, the consultation gatherings are a small component of a larger scheme intended to incite political sentiments in half the population.

“This is a political strategy and an opposition working formula. The election divided Kenyans right at the centre, 6.9 million Kenyans supported the opposition bigwig. That is a population that can cause a political revolution. It can easily cripple governments operations,” he said.

Moses Gichuho, a national youth leader and expert in leadership and governance, claimed Raila’s goal was to make it difficult for the Ruto government to run the country and then accuse it of missing the ability and motivation to keep its promise to the “hustlers.”

“The opposition chief is not playing a short-term game. His actions have the undertones of a mission that will culminate in the 2027 general election whether he is on the ballot or not,” he said.

Gichuho further added that Raila is determined to ensure that Ruto does not get a second term.

The Azimio brigade, according to political analyst Daniel Orogo, is attempting to establish a shadow opposition government outside of parliament that will hold the current administration accountable.

He claimed that just because Kenya’s constitution does not recognize the office of the official opposition, the Azimio leaders are committed to achieving their objective.
