Raila's party cautions supporters as suspected goons set a bus ablaze

Raila-led ODM party has sent a cautionary note to their members and supporters as demonstrations resume

Raila-led ODM party has sent a cautionary note to their members and supporters as demonstrations resume.

The note by Orange Democratic Movement comes after suspected goons set ablaze a public service vehicle along Ngong Road.

The party blamed the attacks on a plan by the state to make the opposition look violent.

ODM said they know the government’s tricks and that with time, the state will be exposed and ashamed.

“Our members and supporters and the entire Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition family are hereby advised not to fall for the barefaced antics of our opposition which are aimed at portraying our side as violent. We know their tricks and with time they will be ashamed,” ODM tweeted on Tuesday.

In videos shared online, the suspected goons believed to have set the bus on fire also robbed the people who were aboard.

Police used teargas to disperse the group that had gathered on the road to restore calm.

Some youths at the scene said those behind the attack are not from the area.

They say the attackers arrived in groups and looked organized. They then threw petrol bombs they had onto an oncoming bus as the driver tried to turn and escape in vain.

The opposition had announced that it would resume protests on Tuesday, as the bipartisan talks face collapse.

The Azimio side has refused to be part of the talks despite the government giving into most of their demands.

ODM secretary general and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna while reacting to the video claimed the government was trying to incite city residents against each other.

“The state in a well-orchestrated spate of violence is trying to paint our #MaandamanoTuesday as anything but peaceful. We know these tricks,” he said.

The Senate Deputy Majority Whip said Azimio was updated with these tricks, calling supporters to remain peaceful.
