Raila’s spokesperson responds to Transport CS Murkomen over the SGR contract that he made public on Sunday evening.
Raila Odinga campaign spokesperson in the last elections Makau Mutua now wants Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen to give further directions, after making public the SGR contract.
Makau questioned what would happen after the contract was made available to the public.
He asked that the Cabinet Secretary make the next move known and added that it can potentially be a scheme to divert Kenyans’ attention from more pressing matters.
“Yes — I must see all SGR contract(s). But what next? Renegotiate them? Repossess/reject the “collaterals”? Or is it just hot air to distract Kenyans? Who was uber DP, Treasury CS, and Senate Majority Leader when SGR contracts were signed? I smell a rat. Say more, or stop PR,” he said on Monday.
On Sunday, Murkomen declared that he had located the document that had been kept a secret from the public by the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and had given it to both the National Assembly and the Senate.
“I have given the Kenyan people access to the standard gauge railway agreements as promised. I’ve provided copies to Kimani Ichungwa and Aaron Cheruiyot, the majority leaders “said he.
The Standard Gauge Railway contracts will be laid before the relevant Houses of Parliament, according to Murkomen. He gave a copy to the press as well.
Murkomen promised to make the contract’s specifics public when he stood for vetting because they had remained secret.
This is despite Kenyans pushing to know whether the Kenya Ports Authority was used to guarantee the loans from the Chinese government.
SGR cost is said to have hit Sh670 billion.
