Reprive for DP Gachagua as the court allows DPP to review his Ksh7.4 Billion graft case

DP Gachagua can breathe a sigh of relief after the court allowed DPP to review his Ksh7.4 Billion graft case.

Prosecutors have three weeks to review the Sh7.4 billion graft case against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and nine other individuals, according to the anti-corruption court in Nairobi.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested that the hearing set for Monday and Tuesday be postponed so that the prosecutors may review the case before deciding whether to move on with DP Gachagua’s trial.

Magistrate Victor Wakulime granted a plea filed before the court by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji, who asked for more time to review the case.

DP Gachagua is accused of irregularly obtaining Ksh7.4 billion between 2013 and 2020 through questionable dealings with the national government.

The money was wired to multiple accounts registered in his name.

He alongside nine others was also accused of defrauding the Nyeri County government money to the tune of Ksh27.4 million for the supply of kidney dialysis machines.

The DPP was granted until November 21 to return to court with directions for the trial.

In addition, the prosecution counsel noted that the matter could not proceed as the DP and his co-accused were not present in court.

Gahagua’s lawyer claimed that there was a miscommunication on whether the proceedings were online or in person.
