Ruto appoints former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Kungu Muigai chairperson of the Kenya Cultural Center Council.
Muigai was named to the board by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, according to a Gazette Notice sent by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Saturday, January 21.
Kungu Muigai, who is a retired army captain will serve in the position for a period of two years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 (1) of the Kenya Cultural Centre Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts appoints Kungu Muigai to be a member and Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Cultural Centre Council.
“This will be for a period of two (2) years, with effect from January 20, 2023,’ read the statement in part.

Kungu Muigai was an ardent critic of his cousin, Uhuru Kenyatta during his second term.
Notably, he was vocal about his support for the Kenya Kwanza administration and, in particular, President William Ruto in the run for the 2022 General Election.
In other appointments published in the gazette, Ruto named Patrick Gichuru as the chairman of the Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority and Hannah Muriithi as the chair of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Stephen Kiptoem, on the other hand, was appointed as the board chairperson of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) for a period of three years.
To the Financial Inclusion Fund Board, popularly known as Hustler Fund, Co-operatives CS Simon Chelugui appointed Lawrence Kibet, Paul Ndore and Hardlyne Lusui.
The trio will serve for a period of three years.
