CS Owalo lands international role after being selected to serve as a Member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Digital Innovation Board

ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has been selected to serve as a Member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Digital Innovation Board.

In a statement on Thursday, February 8, the Ministry of ICT said CS Owalo will serve alongside eighteen individuals who have also been selected to the Board.

The other appointees include; Bahrain Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Mohamed bin Thamir, Japan Vice Minister, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Hiroshi Yoshida, Nigeria Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani and Dr. Umar Saif, Minister of Information, Technology and Telecommunication in Pakistan.

Others include; Mondli Gungubele, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, and Bernardo Mariano Jr. Assistant Secretary-General, United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology among others. 

The Digital Innovation Board is one of the vehicles of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development under the ITU, aimed at accelerating the bridging of the digital innovation divide.

The Digital board is tasked with providing strategic guidance, expertise, and advocacy regarding the initiative’s mission of building critical local enablers and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in digital development.

The board also advances the efforts of the Alliance on the global stage, leading the dialogue on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in digital development with relevant stakeholders and prospective partners, including UN agencies, governments, and private sector.

“We congratulate CS Owalo for this distinguished nomination and wish him all the best in his endeavours in this new capacity,” The ICT Ministry stated.
