Ruto through Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Njuguna Ndung’u replaces five Uhuru appointees of the KRA Board.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u has announced the appointment of Darshan Shah, Wilkister Simiyu, Fancy Too, Kamau Kamiru, and Samir Ibrahim to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board.

The new members replaced five appointed during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s era.

They will serve for a period of three years, with effect from January 13.

The appointments are in line with section 6 (2) (e) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.

In a gazette notice dated January 12, Ndung’u revoked the appointment of Susan Mudhune, Mukesh Shah, Richard Opembe, Leonard Ithau, and Charles Makori Omanga appointed by his predecessor Ukur Yatani.

Board members who survived are Sally Mahihu and Musa Kathanje.

The appointment of the new KRA board members on Friday came barely two months after President William Ruto appointed Anthony Mwaura as the KRA Board Chairperson.

Mwaura, who served as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Elections Board Chairperson, took over from Ambassador Francis Muthaura whose term was set to end in May 2023.

Muthaura’s tenure had been renewed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in mid-2020.

In addition, Ndung’u appointed Sarah Serem to serve as the Kenya Post Office Savings Bank’s board chair for a three-year term, beginning on January 13.

Similarly, former Kinangop MP Benjamin Tayari was named as the Chairperson of the Kenya Ports Authority in the same gazette issuance by Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen.

Murkomen revoked the appointment of Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph R. E. Kibwana.
