Ruto and other African leaders secured Ksh1.2 trillion in funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Wednesday, January 25, during the Feed Africa Summit in Dakar, Senegal.

President William Ruto stated that the funding would be channeled toward food production in Africa for five years.

The president also emphasized the necessity for public-private partnerships to support agricultural initiatives in the nation due to the country’s declining food supply at a time of increasing demand.

“We are grateful to the African Development Bank which has pledged to invest Ksh1.2 trillion in food production in Africa.

“There exist huge opportunities for the partnerships that will enable us to undertake large agricultural projects because of the increasing demand for food,” Ruto stated.

Additionally, Ruto stated that Kenya offered a number of agricultural prospects, including investment in production, irrigation, and farm input supplies.

The president said that these options, which include investments in actual production, farm input supply, and irrigation, will help us produce enough food.

By enhancing government agriculture programs, Ruto challenged the private sector to form investment partnerships with the government.

“Support to government programs from the private sector will lead to a boost in long-term agricultural production in the country,” Ruto explained.

Ruto gave his keynote address at the Dakar 2 Summit on Food, Sovereignty, and Resilience, which was a component of his three-day official trip to France and Senegal.

On Tuesday, January 24, the President held bilateral talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

The discussion included, among other things, how to improve bilateral trade ties.

Despite acknowledging their close links, Ruto and Macron pledged to take action to broaden and capitalize on the trade prospects already present between Paris and Nairobi.

The President also talked about Kenya’s involvement in security operations to bring about peace in the region of East and Central Africa.
