President William Ruto has issued a warning to contractors delaying the implementation of key government projects across the country.
Speaking during the inspection of the construction of the Kisii Cancer Centre on Wednesday, January 1, the agitated President specifically read a riot act to the contractor working on the centre and others who have been awarded government projects.
“You have been paid all the money required. There is no reason whatsoever why this project is not progressing,” Ruto warned.
”This is unacceptable. So, you will get a final warning, you know, my friend. If you don’t pull up your socks, then we’ll have to terminate this contract. Get another contractor so that we can get this cancer centre off the ground. It’s just as simple as that. There is no brawl, there is no quarrel,” he added.
The Head of State instructed the contractor to implement the project in line with the agreement or face contract termination.
This was after key leaders present at the inspection raised complaints to Ruto over how the contractor had delayed starting the project.
A spot check revealed that despite the launch of the project by Ruto on August 14, almost 4 months ago.
Images and footage showed that only ground excavation works had begun at the construction site, despite the contractor promising to complete the work on time.

Meanwhile, Ruto revealed that the government is committed to fulfilling its promises to the people, saying contractors undermining their efforts will not be tolerated.
“There are many contractors who are letting us down, and we will not allow them. This is the year for delivering our agenda as planned,” Ruto warned.
”We will not allow that, as this is the year for delivery. This is the year that we must get everything done the way we have planned,” he added.
However, Ruto’s threat of firing the contractors could pose a lot of legal and fiscal debates, especially on what the law states regarding whether a fired contractor can be forced to refund or be refunded by the state.
His warning also comes months after activist Morara Kebaso’s efforts to expose dormant government projects had been downplayed by the government.
Ruto is currently taking a tour of the region, following his holiday stint at his Kilgoris home in Narok, a few kilometres from Kisii.
