Ruto willing to discuss the opening of the IEBC servers with the Azimio coalition in the bipartisan talks.

National Assembly leader of the majority, Kimani Ichung’wah, stated on Friday, April 21, that the Kenya Kwanza side was ready to discuss with the Azimio team over the requests for reopening the 2022 General Election servers.

Speaking in Nyeri county, Inchung’wah said that in order to persuade them, they needed the former prime minister Raila Odinga’s team to present their demands to the committee.

He said, “We are not afraid to open the servers because we are confident that we won the elections fairly.”

Ichung’wah argued that discussing the server issue at rallies would be ineffective, even as he urged his colleagues to seize the opportunity to work with the bipartisan committee.

“We want to listen to them, even the servers they want us to open. We have asked them to bring the issue to the table, and not to shout about them in the rallies.

“We will discuss, and if there is a way we will see because we have nothing to hide,” he stated.

However, Ichung’wah maintained that they would not engage the opposition in sharing government, adding that the Kenya Kwanza administration was legitimately elected.

“Bring all your issues to the table except one issue we are not ready to discuss – a handshake and the sharing of government. That is an issue that Kenyans settled on August 9,” he stated.

Earlier, the team led by President William Ruto had dismissed Azimio’s demands for the servers as they explained that the matter was not anchored in the constitution.

On the other hand, Raila wants the server issue to be addressed outside Parliament, with allies already claiming that Venezuelan hackers were brought back to tamper with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) data.

“We agree that a balanced process spearheaded by Members of Parliament from both sides and backed by experts is an appropriate way to proceed. The end product will then be presented to Parliament for approval,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the bipartisan committee met on Thursday, April 20, to set ground rules for engagement.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and his Tharaka counterpart George Murugara were selected as joint chairs in the meeting.
