President Ruto plans to rally all MPs appossed to the proposed controversial finance bill 2023 by simplifying proposals in the bill

President Ruto plans to rally all MPs appossed to the proposed controversial finance bill 2023 by simplifying proposals in the bill.

On Friday, June 2, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah disclosed that President William Ruto and his team were relying on the Finance Bill 2023’s recommendations to be made simpler in order to win over lawmakers who planned to reject it.

Speaking to the media in Nairobi, the MP said that some of his colleagues had not read the document and had been purposefully misrepresenting the facts to the public.

The National Assembly’s Leader of the Majority also added that the team would be more successful in persuading mps who had been pressured by their constituents to oppose the Bill, which will be debated in Parliament next week, if the facts and data in the Bill were simplified.

“It is my prayer that we will leave the drama out there. They have done their bit in misinforming Kenyans. When they come to the floor of the house, they better come with facts and figures because we will be having them.

“I must say that those engaged in a spirited campaign against the bill have not read that Finance Bill,” he stated.

He also urged his colleagues to engage in meaningful debate when the Bill is tabled in the NA for debate.

“As the people’s representatives, we have an obligation to ensure that we strike a balance between the expenditure and the revenue side of the government and we cannot consider that if we do not do it soberly,” he added.

Ichung’wah’s affirmation came hours after Ruto began the implementation of the strategy during a meeting with governors and manufacturers in the country.

Speaking during a meeting in Nairobi, the President called on governors – drawn for both factions to rally behind the Finance Bill that has caused heated debate in the political sphere.

In particular, he noted that the tax proposals in the Finance Bill were aimed at creating job opportunities for thousands of Kenyans who were yet to get employed.

“Singapore was like Kibera and they made very difficult decisions and that is why are where they are and we are where we are. The gap between the two countries is the ability to make decisions” he stated.

Ruto’s strategy is aimed at scuttling Azimio who have resorted to the use of graphics to demystify the contentious Bill and to elucidate its effects on Kenyans.

Some of the platforms Azimio have used include the Azimio TV social media pages and influential opinion leaders in the Raila Odinga faction.
