The contentious oil imported from Turkey to Kenya continues to develop by the day.

Ruto’s UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga of being the purported masterminds behind the Ksh.17 billion oil scandal linked to self-proclaimed businesswoman Ann Njeri.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, Malala questioned why the two publicly commented on the government’s move to confiscate the oil consignment, further suggesting that the duo have vested interests in the shipment.

Malala claimed Raila worked in cahoots with former president Uhuru Kenyatta to procure the oil.

According to him, the KSh 17 billion involved were proceeds of grand theft in the sunset days of Uhuru’s administration.

He asserted that Uhuru’s recent resurfacing in the public after months of absence was motivated by the emergence of the saga.

He thus concluded that Raila and Uhuru were the persons of interest in the oil drama; he further asserted that the handshake duo were out to monopolize the oil sector.

“Raila started speaking immediately when the Njeri saga came out. At the same time, Uhuru came out. When were going into the elections, KSh 16.9 billion went missing. They changed the money to dollars and stuffed it in their companies outside Kenya. They then used it to order the oil, they were to divide the proceeds out of the sale,” Malala said.

At the centre of the saga has been purported businesswoman Ann Njeri, who claimed ownership of the 100,000 metric tonnes shipment valued at KSh 17 billion.

Njeri and two oil marketing companies claimed ownership of the oil, which was offloaded at the Port of Mombasa a few days back.

However, Raila Odinga claimed Njeri was playing front for faceless oil importers whom he (Raila) claimed to sit in the top brass of the current administration.

Meanwhile, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah alleged that the government-financed Njeri in the contentious Ksh.17 billion fuel deal.

Omtatah said that the State through Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u funded the businesswoman in June to import the fuel and that she is only being used as collateral.
