Sabina Chege accuses Uhuru and Raila of betrayal after sacrificing her political ambitions to stick with the Jubilee party.

On Wednesday, April 26, newly-nominated member of parliament Sabina Wanjiru Chege challenged former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to convene a meeting for her to demonstrate her contributions to the Jubilee Party and sacrifices.

Speaking to the media, Sabina said that she gave up her political aspirations during the General Election on August 8 in order to popularize the outfit, which was a partner of Azimio la Umoja.

Sabina stated that she was prepared to meet with Uhuru and Raila to discuss her contribution during the August elections in the wake of recent attacks and attempts to de-whip her.

“I would like to look at Uhuru Kenyatta and Baba (Raila) in the face and ask, ‘Did Sabina sacrifice for this party?” she posed.

Justifying her sentiments, Sabina reiterated that she could have won any political seat but she decided to shelve her ambitions for Azimio’s sake.

She thus implored Uhuru to convene a meeting to iron out the issues facing Jubilee Party.

“So if something has happened, it is noble for our seniors to call us and have a chance to talk to us. I also want to appeal to our party leader, you are our leader and it is important that you call all of us together.

“It is important we give each other a chance, It is important we preserve this party, and pestering should stop,” she added.

However, Sabina ruled out joining Azimio’s weekly protests indicating that when Uhuru handed over the instruments of power to President William Ruto, he legitimized his election win.

Ms. Chege further argued that she was ready to engage with other Azimio leaders to address the issues through the Parliamentary process.

Chege also lamented over plans to de-whip her at the National Assembly, noting that they were politically instigated.

Her sentiments followed an impromptu meeting between Uhuru and Jeremiah Kioni-led faction to quell the wrangles at Jubilee Party headquarters in Kileleshwa.

Uhuru challenged the disgruntled members to leave the party without wreaking havoc.

“Anyone who wants to leave a party can join another. We have no quarrel with anyone. We want to guard our party, and those who do not want, are free to leave,” Uhuru stated.

“Let us maintain peace. Police officers have better things to do other than coming here to restore peace. We don’t have issues with anyone, our mandate is to maintain peace,” he stated.
