Kenya Kwanza leaders presuure Ruto to seize Uhuru's Kedong ranch and hand it back to the local community
Kenya Kwanza leaders presuure Ruto to seize Uhuru’s Kedong ranch and hand it back to the local community.
On Friday, March 31, a group of Kenya Kwanza politicians, led by Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, urged the government to recover former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Kedong Ranch for the local populations.
Speaking to locals in Narok, Cheruiyot said he was prepared to fight for the Kedong Ranch’s ownership to be reversed.
The lawmaker made the case that the ranch would be of benefit to the community.
“Pursue the rights of your people until they get back the Kedong Ranch, we will support you,” Cheruiyot stated.
Narok East MP Ken Aramat further decried heavy police presence at the farm.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislator stated that Kedong Ranch was unutilised, depriving the local community of access to grazing fields.
He further indicated that the ranch had water sources that would promote agriculture and other activities if supplied in the county.
“Heavy police presence is always at the farm blocking the local residents from collecting sand, water and even grazing fields,” Aramat stated.
“We have a special attachment with Kedong Ranch, and we are not advocating for protests, but we just want the owner to leave and allow the residents to utilise it,” he added.
On Thursday, March 30, unknown individuals attempted to break into the Kedong Ranch perimeter wall.
However, a swift response by law enforcement officers repulsed the attempted raid.

“We received reports that some members of the youth from the neighbouring community planned to invade the more than 75,000-acre expansive land and destroy property. We deployed anti-riot officers from 6am,” Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde stated.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Friday claimed that Uhuru’s family dispatched representatives to President William Ruto to request that the government cease its purported witch hunt following the failed raid on Kedong Ranch and Northlands in Ruiru.
President William Ruto, on the other hand, denied claims that his administration permitted thugs to invade Northlands City and Raila Odinga Spectre Gas Company.
On Tuesday, March 28, during a speech to Kenyans in Germany, Ruto pledged to defend all public and private property and gave the Inspector General of Police accountability for any damage.
