The Mombasa-bound Tahmeed bus collided with a fuel tanker at Mundika market in Busia County with several passengers feared dead. 

Several people are feared dead after a Mombasa-bound Tahmeed bus was involved in an accident with a fuel tanker on Friday, March 1 at Mundika market along the Busia-Bumala roain Busia County.

Locals from Mukinda market gathered at the accident scene trying to rescue the survivors. 

According to reports, the accident happened after the Tahmeed bus collided with the petrol tanker head-on collision.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described a harrowing scene of destruction, with the tanker erupting into flames upon impact. 

Despite efforts by passers-by and responders to rescue survivors and extinguish the fire, the situation remained dire.

Initial reports indicate that two died as five others were rushed to the Busia Referral Hospital after the accident.

Kenya Red Cross in a statement said the Busia County government has mobilized a rescue mission to extinguish the flames, rescue the passengers, and assess the extent of the tragedy.

“Following a head-on collision involving an oil tanker and a PSV Bus at Mundika junction in Busia County, response teams, including the County Fire Brigade and Red Cross Action team, have been deployed to the scene.

“Ongoing efforts are underway as a fire has erupted as a consequence of the collision,” Kenya Red Cross stated. The accident comes a day after another one that claimed nine lives near the Katangi area along the Machakos-Kitui road.

Thirty other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to various health facilities in the region.
