Police officers on Monday, July 7, mounted roadblocks on several roads leading into the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) ahead of the planned Saba Saba protests.
On Thika Road, the officers have set up a roadblock at the Allsops area restricting access to the Nairobi CBD. Only vehicles providing essential services are being allowed through.
The law enforcement officers have blocked motorists at Junction Mall and near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road, forcing Matatus to turn back.
In Waiyaki Way, the police have mounted a barricade at the Kangemi area restricting the movement of vehicles, including long-distance buses, from getting to the CBD.
The situation is similar at Uhuru Highway, Parklands roundabout, and the Mall Westlands.
In State House Road, the police have amounted a razor-sharp barbed wire to prevent members of the public from using the road.
There is also a heavy police presence in Nairobi CBD with officers on horses patrolling the streets ahead of the planned protests
Many businesses in Nairobi CBD have also been closed, and most of the streets remain empty.

The National Police Service (NPS) on Sunday assured the public of their readiness to ensure security and public safety.
In a statement, NPS said it is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Kenyans and maintaining order.
“NPS wishes to address the public concerning various mainstream and social media posts about allegedly planned Saba Saba protests scheduled to take place tomorrow 7th July 2025 in some parts of the country. That notwithstanding, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all Kenyans, and to maintain peace, law, and order,” NPS stated.
However, NPS warned that they will not tolerate any form of unlawful behavior, and that law enforcement will respond accordingly if the situation escalates.
