Oscar Sudi alleges a plan to burn his home claiming protests were planned to overthrow Ruto government.

Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi has made a sensational claim that the recent unrest in Kenya was part of a calculated plot to overthrow President William Ruto.

Speaking on Friday, July 5, Sudi alleged that there was a sophisticated plan to burn not only his entertainment venue but also to stage a coup against the current administration.

“Things that happened in Kenya were planned. They intended to overthrow the government. It was a set coup,” he charged, fuelling the already intense political atmosphere in the country.

Though Sudi refrained from naming specific individuals, his remarks seemed aimed at dispelling accusations that President Ruto and his allies had orchestrated the violence to undermine the anti-government protests that have gripped Kenya for the past three weeks.

Sudi rejected these claims, instead suggesting that a different agenda was at play.

“They used our children, placing them in front, and civil societies in their and other goons, so that the real thugs can arrive,” Sudi alleged, positioning himself as a defender of both the government and the youth he believes have been manipulated.

In his impassioned statement, Sudi expressed his frustration over the destruction wrought by the protests, which included the burning of his popular entertainment venue, Timber XO.

“Burning counties like Uasin Gishu is really embarrassing. We look like fools,” Sudi said, questioning the connection between the Finance Bill, which has been a major flashpoint, and the violence affecting businesses and communities.

Sudi’s Timber XO was torched during the protests, an act he claims has had far-reaching consequences beyond the immediate damage. “Timber was not like people are saying. It was not just a club. There were shops, a car wash, a place for car servicing, and a hotel. 220 people were working there,” he explained, lamenting that the destruction has disrupted the livelihoods of nearly 600 people.

The MP’s anger was palpable as he recounted the devastation inflicted on his property. “I called those who I know incited our children, I told them to come and burn my house so that whatever ill is in your heart comes out, and you become happy,” he said, directing his ire at those he believes are responsible for the unrest.

Sudi’s revelations come as he takes a two-year sabbatical from Harambees and active politics, a move he announced earlier this month.

This break from public life is a response to what he perceives as efforts by political adversaries to tarnish his reputation. “I have taken leave because of jealous people like you. If God grants me grace, then I decided to change my mind,” he said in a social media post addressing questions about a recent Ksh20 million donation he made during a church fundraising event.

The MP’s allegations come as the fallout of the three weeks of protests continues. Already, Nairobi County has stated it lost upwards of Ksh340 million in the five days of protests, while many business owners are reeling from damaged property and looted stores.
