Three children burnt to death as fire destroys homes in Gituamba area, Gitaru, Kiambu County.
Three children aged 6, 4, and 3 months have died after a fire broke out and razed down eight houses in Gituamba area, Gitaru, Kiambu County.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire erupted on Wednesday, February 19, around 8: 15 PM.
Neighbors and rescuers rushed to the scene to help put out the inferno before it caught other houses.
However, after extinguishing the fire, the rescuers realized that three young children who were in one of the houses had been burned beyond recognition.
According to witnesses, the 6- and 4-year-old children died while trying to open the door in one of the rooms while the youngest three-month-old baby girl died in the bedroom.
The parents of the three children were not at home during the time of the incident and had locked them inside the house.

The cause of the inferno is also yet to be revealed and investigators have launched investigations to uncover it.
The incident comes days after property of unknown value was destroyed after a fire broke out near Pettans Technical College in Kiambu Town.
The fire quickly spread to a residential building and emergency response teams from Kiambu County and Kenya Red Cross were deployed to the scene to contain the massive fire.
The fire was eventually contained after additional response teams from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Nairobi County were deployed.
