The MP revealed that he received papers which were circulated widely within his constituency, warning him against leaving his compound.
His constituents staged demonstrations that lasted six hours, demanding that the police provide the lawmaker with protection to guarantee his safety.
The residents also called for the immediate apprehension of those suspected of issuing the threats against the MP’s life.
“We will not accept that our MP be executed, and that is why we are demanding his security to be assured. If that will not be done, we will camp here on the road to ensure that it is done,” Philemon Leiting, a resident, demanded.
“Whatever we received was utterly wrong; we demand the MP’s security be assured so that he can serve us well,” another resident added.
The developments come just days after a section of MPs called on the National Police Service and other security agencies to enhance their protection following the shocking killing of Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were.
Police agencies have so far made several arrests in connection with the killing of Were. While the motive behind his murder remains unclear, chilling videos later resurfaced showing the MP openly stating that his life was in danger and naming individuals he claimed were plotting to execute him.

However, police later confirmed that the killing was a planned execution. According to the National Police Service (NPS), some of the arrested suspects are members of the notorious Mjahidin gang, an organised criminal group linked to a series of armed robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.
“Upon further analysis of previously obtained leads, officers from the National Police Service swiftly conducted an operation and successfully arrested four suspects who had been positively placed at the crime scene,” the NPS said.
MP Were was shot dead along Ngong Road on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, at around 7:30 p.m.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, later instructed all MPs to submit their security details to Parliament for a fresh vetting following the murder of the legislator.
Speaking during the MP’s requiem mass at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi, Wetang’ula emphasised the need for fresh vetting to ensure that the bodyguards are well known and to prevent such an incident from reoccurring.
MPs are entitled to at least one police bodyguard, with an additional two officers stationed at their homes, either in the city or upcountry.
