Security lapse let murderer convict Danelo Cavalcante 'crab walk' out of Pennsylvania prison

Security lapse let murderer convict Danelo Cavalcante ‘crab walk’ out of US Pennsylvania prison.

The manhunt continue for murderer Danelo Cavalcante, who escaped from a Pennsylvania prison last week by thwarting newly installed razor wire put in place after another inmate briefly broke out a few months ago, authorities said at a Wednesday news conference.

A video released by the Chester County Attorney’s Office shows the moment inmate Danelo Cavalcante escaped from the Chester County Prison, in Pocopson Township, on Thursday, August 31.

The 34-year-old Brazilian convicted murderer escaped by “crab walking” between two walls, pushing his way through razor wire, running across a roof, scaling another fence, and getting through more razor wire, Chester County Prison Acting Warden Howard Holland told reporters.

After reaching the roof, both inmates were able to climb down a ladder to a less secure part of the prison.

Asked how it could be possible for an escape to be replicated so soon after the previous attempt, he replied: “We thought we took appropriate efforts to prevent that with the razor wire.”

The video was released as Cavalcante evaded a massive manhunt in Pennsylvania for a sixth day on Wednesday, despite being spotted on outdoor cameras and at one point breaking into a house to raid the kitchen.

Holland said the escape was not seen by a guard in a tower overlooking the group of prisoners playing basketball nor by whomever was monitoring the 160 cameras at the correctional facility in eastern Pennsylvania, about 30 miles from Philadelphia.

The tower guard is on administrative leave and their actions are being investigated, Holland said.

The Chester County prosecutor’s office announced a $10,000 reward and said that hundreds of officers, backed by helicopters, drones, night-vision goggles, and dogs, were on the hunt.
