US reiterates August 2022 polls were the most transparent in Kenya's history

US Ambassador to Kenya has described the August 9 general elections as the most transparent in the history of Kenya.

Ambassador Meg Whitman said she has been super impressed with Kenya following the elections

“Kenya held free, fair, and most transparent elections in the country’s history this past August,” she said.

This is despite the ongoing anti-government demonstrations conducted by the opposition on Monday and Thursday insisting their victory was stolen in the August 9 general elections.

And Tuesday, March 28, Raila attacked foreign powers, alleging that they were hell-bent on protecting Ruto and failed to call out the government for using extra force on protesters.

Meanwhile, Whitman described President William Ruto as a very strong, smart, strategic leader in her letter to President Biden.

“He is hands-on and easy to work with. He understands that economic growth and development is the way forward and has set a vision for accelerating Kenya’s drive to achieve upper middle-income country status by 2030,” Whiteman said.

She added that Ruto has also been very instrumental in fostering peace and security in the region.

However, the White House, through its State Department Spokesman Vedant Patel, condemned the violence, encouraged the opposition to carry out peaceful protests, and advised the government to exercise tolerance.

“We call on government security forces to act with restraint while protecting public safety and property. The rights to freedoms of expression and association and the right to peaceful assembly are core tenets to democracy,” Vedant Patel stated.
