Wajackoyah warns President Ruto against associating with COTU boss Francis Atwoli, “he’ll make us hate you”
Roots party leader George Wajackoyah cautioned President William Ruto against associating with Central Organisation Trade Union (COTU) secretary general, Francis Atwoli, arguing that the latter was famous for switching camps.
Wajackoyah, while speaking in Navakholo, Kakamega, on Sunday, December 18, argued that Western Kenya cannot be led by leaders who lacked a political stand.
“Atwoli can’t stand before Luyhas and tell them that we need unity when he has been standing with Raila and all of a sudden he has jumped ship. We shall never follow that example,” he said.
“Mr. President please remove Atwoli away from you, he is going to smear dirt on you that will make us hate you permanently.”
Wajackoyah said Luyha leaders should instead unite to develop the communities in Western Kenya.
He said Atwoli is not and will never be part of the Luhya community.

Wajackoyah’s statement comes after Atwoli led a delegation of Luhya leaders to meet President William Ruto.
Ruto also extended an olive branch to Francis Atwoli, asking for forgiveness for bad comments he made towards the COTU boss.
In the run-up to the August 9 election, the vocal trade unionist vehemently opposed Ruto’s candidature but warmed up to him months later.
He campaigned fiercely against Ruto’s presidency, at one point going on record stating that Ruto will never succeed former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
