“Watch your mouth, we’re in charge of your security”; Matiang’i warns Ruto
Matiang’i warns Ruto to tread carefully over his continued attacks on security chiefs for political gains.
Deputy President William Ruto has received a warning from Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for his continuous criticism of the nation’s senior security officials.
The deputy president recently referred to the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai as the most incompetent IG in the world.
Ruto claimed that the independence of the Inspector General was compromised for over-dependence on the Office of the President for financing.
However, speaking during an administration officers’ pass-out parade in Embakasi on Wednesday, July 13, Matiang’i warned Ruto to stop disrespecting Mutyambai and other top security officials.
He reminded him that some of them had been charged with protecting his life.
According to the interior CS, attacks on security personnel won’t help him gain any sympathy votes in the general election on August 9.
“I understand that nerves are raw, the frustrations are there and there are times that people feel like they are not going to get it or win, resorting to attack security officers will not win you votes.
“Respect those in the security sector. Many of those whom you want to undermine are people who even command the teams that provide you with security,” Matiang’i stated.
Matiang’i additionally cautioned politicians to refrain from involving government officials and the National Police Service in their political disputes and instead allow them to go about their work.
“I would like to ask our political leaders to keep all of us out of the political environment, not to politicize security matters, and not undermine the image and the work that security officers do.”
