We'll not allow our son to be humiliated; Gov Kahiga on alleged Ruto Gachagua fallout

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga says the leadership of Mt Kenya will not allow a few individuals to sow a rift between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga says the leadership of Mt Kenya will not allow a few individuals to sow a rift between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking at a church service in Endarasha,  Nyeri county on Sunday said bad blood between the two leaders will not be detrimental, not just for Mt Kenya but the entire country.

“We will not allow it to happen. We will not allow our son (Rigathi) to be humiliated.” There are people who just want to ruin this government,” he stated.

He said Ruto was humiliated and disrespected in the last administration when he was Deputy President yet he still supported the Mt Kenya community.

“Ruto was disrespected and humiliated so much though as a community, he stood with us. We will not allow our son to go through that,” he stated.

He said the Limuru III meeting on Friday was convened and attended by self-seekers.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta appeared to have made a comeback in the political sphere after the meeting named him as the leader of the Haki Coalition that they unveiled.

During the Limuru III meeting, leaders resolved to retain Uhuru as the region’s kingpin to chart a way forward ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

They called on Gachagua and Uhuru to convene a meeting and agree on the region’s direction of the elections.

On Sunday, Kahiga said any disrespect to Gachagua would be seen as contempt to the Mt Kenya community.

Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga said there is a deliberate effort to cause a wedge between the President and his deputy.

“It is only one and a half years since we held elections. We will not allow people to cause bad blood between the President and his deputy,” Wamatinga added.

Nandi senator Samson Cherargei said Rigathi is not a leader of the Mt Kenya region alone but the entire country.

“He is not a village elder or a leader in Mt Kenya. He is the Deputy President of Kenya,” Charargei said.
