Why I haven't been to Mt Kenya for six months; Ruto

President William Ruto has defended his six-month absence from Mt Kenya region saying he has a scorecard for the region.

The president said on Monday night that his failure to visit Mt Kenya over the last half a year can’t be used to justify claims by his critics that his popularity has dwindled.

Responding to questions from journalists during a live TV interview ahead of his Mt Kenya tour, Ruto said he will shock his critics.

“It has taken me months to be here, but I have a scorecard on what I have done on electricity, affordable housing, markets and many more that I will show from tomorrow (Tuesday),” he said.

The president denied that he has avoided visiting Mt Kenya because of hostility, saying he is determined to deliver on his agenda for the region.

“I will camp in the Mt Kenya until people shall ask of I don’t have any other region to go to,” Ruto said.

The president insisted that his five-day tour of Mt Kenya is timely and geared to showcase his achievement.

“You can’t assess my support in Mt Kenya based on the few days I have not been here, yet I have built a friendship with the people of this region,” Ruto said in the interview.

At the same time, the president insisted that he has not in any way shied away from visiting Mt Kenya deliberately over any other reasons as alleged by critics.

“Those saying otherwise will see tomorrow for themselves,’ he said.
