Wiper party officials meet, dismiss reports on returning to Azimio as pressure mounts on Kalonzo.

Wiper party officials are meeting today Monday, 23, May at Stoni Athi in Machakos County as speculations mount on the political future of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Officials privy to the agenda of the meeting said they’ll deliberate on party affairs inaddition to fate of Kalonzo in the Azimio Coalition. 

Wiper vice-chairman Mutula Kilonzo Jnr was quoted by the Nation saying, “We need to consolidate and strategise how to keep competition away and campaign plan. I expect the Azimio issues will be brought up.”

Kalonzo, who is said to be out of the country on a private trip will not be in attendance.

Meanwhile, Kalonzo’s suppossed running mate Andrew Sunkuli presented signatures of supporters backing their bids to IEBC.

Spoking at the Bomas of Kenya, Sunkuli said they’ll be on the ballot.

“We are on the ballot that is why we are here to represent my party leader who is out of the country,” Sunkuli said.  

“Everybody is asking us to join them. I think we are an extremely attractive ticket but I want to assure the people of Kenya that we will be asking them for their votes.”

Kalonzo allies dismiss Azimio return talks

Makueni Member of Parliament, Mr Dan Maanzo has rubbished reports that Kalonzo is under pressure to return to Azimio and take up the position of the Chief Cabinet Secretary.

Maanzo, stated that the party was not in any way engaged in any negotiations with the Azimio faction since the party bolted out.

“I am not aware of any negotiations between our party leader and the Azimio faction. We have not had any engagement with them so far,” Mr Maanzo remarked.

“Why would we engage in negotiations yet Raila does not need us? He already said through Junet that he has enough votes and does not need our backing.”
