IG Hillary Mutyambai and DCI Boss George Kinoti Resign
IG Hillary Mutyambai and DCI Boss George Kinoti resign as President William Ruto takes charge of the government.
President William Ruto on Tuesday, September 27 while unveiling his cabinet announced that he had received the resignation letters of both the Inspector General of Police, Hilary Mutyambai, and Director General of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti.
Ruto noted that Mutyambai had requested to proceed on terminal leave and he (the President) accepted his resignation.
Further, he noted that Kinoti had also tendered his resignation and directed the Head of Public Service to appoint someone else to be in an acting position.
“This afternoon I received the resignation of DCI director George Kinoti. I have transmitted the same to the National Police Service to proceed with advertising that position,” Ruto said.
“IG Police Mutyambai for his request to proceed on terminal leave because of his health situation. After discussions with Mutyambai and in consideration of his service to the nation and his health, I have accepted that he will proceed on terminal leave in the six months that he has on his contract.”
Before he became president, Ruto had indicated that Kinoti would not be spared as he accused him of being used by Uhuru’s administration to frustrate those opposed to his ideas.
During his tenure, the DCI made a number of arrests that Ruto’s camp deemed targeted, a move believed to have put Kinoti at loggerheads with the current president.
The IG Hilary Mutyambai had announced on August 26, 2022, that he would take a break to seek medical attention.
In his statement, the IG did not reveal what was ailing him. He, however, assured the nation that he was advised to immediately proceed to a hospital for analysis and further advice.
