Man City responds to reports on Haaland’s contract clause

Man City responds to reports on Haaland’s contract clause that favours Real Madrid now or at any point.

Manchester City have reportedly denied that Real Madrid will have a free run to prise Erling Haaland away from the Etihad Stadium in 2024.

It comes after rumors that the star striker has a unique transfer clause in his contract with Citizens that would allow him to join Real in two years’ time.

A bizarre theory has been circulating after a former Real defender suggested he knew about the existence of a release clause in Haaland’s contract at City that allows the Spanish club to pay a specific number that guarantees his signing without having to negotiate with the Blues or fight with any other clubs for his signature.

On Wednesday, Real Madrid’s ex-president Fernando Sanz told the Spanish TV show El Chiringuito: “The information I have is that there is an exit clause for Haaland in the second year, and the curious thing is that it has very beneficial conditions compared to the rest for one club, which is Real Madrid.”

The claim has fed into Real hopes that they can land Haaland after missing out on both him and Kylian Mbappe in the summer.

It is understood that there is some kind of clause in Haaland’s contract, and his dad Alfie spoke in a recent documentary about the player’s aim not to spend more than three or four years anywhere so that he can test himself in every league.

However, Man City sources have refuted the idea that anything particular has been inserted for Real Madrid.

According to prior reports, City was happy to recruit Haaland before Real, thanks in part to Txiki Begiristain, who oversaw an eight-month campaign to persuade the native Blue that the Etihad was the best place for him.

Since projecting the 22-year-early old’s departure from Manchester, the club has been unconcerned about the fuss emanating from Madrid and other places and has instead been focused on keeping the player satisfied enough to stay, as they strive to do with every member of Pep Guardiola’s team.

Since joining City, Haaland has proved why every team wanted to get him, scoring 17 goals in 10 Premier League and Champions League games while also breaking numerous records.
