Guardiola names Julian Alvarez’s position after making a great start to life at Man City after arriving from River Plate.
Manchester City moved to sign Alvarez earlier this year and the River Plate star arrived this summer.
Alvarez has adapted remarkably well to life on a new continent and already has three goals to his name despite having limited minutes.
Pep Guardiola has now revealed that he sees Julian Alvarez playing in a central attacking position at Manchester City.
The 22-year-old is naturally a center-forward but with Erling Haaland also being signed this summer most of his appearances for the Blues have come out wide so far. Haaland has had an even better start at the Etihad, with 13 goals in just nine games, and it’s difficult to see anyone dislodging him from his place in the side anytime soon.
Yet, Guardiola still sees Alvarez in a central position in the future. “A lot I said many times,” Guardiola replied when asked how impressed he has been with the Argentine.
“His numbers, the way he’s played, discover in the last game he can play wider have another in that position, it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t score, but we’ve seen how fast and clinical he is and we are so happy with him. He can play wide but I see him more in central positions.”
Guardiola was also full of praise for Haaland, who has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August. He said: “He’s exceptional, said it many times, I think his ambition is to be better. He’s a perfect person to manage, a nice guy, the quality he has he can continue to do what he’s done. We didn’t add much.”
