Elon Musk to charge $20/ Ksh2,500 Monthly for Twitter verification after take over

Elon Musk to charge $20/ Ksh2,500 Monthly for Twitter verification after taking over the social media platform.

Elon Musk, the richest man in the world who recently bought Twitter, is apparently contemplating making the verification tool a membership service.

In essence, this would entail charging consumers Sh2,428 ($20) per month to maintain the blue ticks.

Musk announced the development in a tweet on Sunday, just days after he took over one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.

According to reports, a team has already been tasked with creating the product and was given a deadline of November 7, 2022.

The verification exercise will be part of Twitter Blue, a service by the company that allows users to opt into a subscription service to unlock more Twitter features.

Initially, Twitter Blue charged Ksh605 per month but will rise to Ksh2,500 after Musk took over.

Before his purchase of Twitter, Musk had hinted that if he took over the social media giant, the verification process would be among the features redressed.

“The whole verification process is being revamped right now,” Musk tweeted on the morning of Monday, October 31, confirming the changes.

Additionally, all users who have been validated on the platform so far will have 90 days to buy the new plan or risk having their blue badges revoked.

According to Vox, there were about 360,000 confirmed accounts since the blue badge was introduced in 2009 as of May.

The badge was introduced to show other Twitter users that an account genuinely belongs to the person whose name it’s in.

When it launches, the feature will mark Musk’s first significant overhaul of the social media behemoth since he took over following a protracted conflict with the company’s previous leadership.

On Friday, October 28, Musk completed the purchase of Twitter, which he had paid Ksh5 trillion for (USD44 billion).
