ODM warns critics castigating former prime minister Raila Odinga to respect him or quit and form their own party

ODM warns critics castigating former prime minister Raila Odinga to respect him or quit and form their own party.

Politicians from the Nyanza region are now urging alleged ODM rebels to stop targeting the party’s leader Raila Odinga or quit.

Governor James Orengo, flanked by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, said that those requesting favors from the government must act with respect and that the petty attacks on the ODM leadership must stop.

Orengo and Wandayi were speaking at Pap Boro village in Usonga during the funeral of the late Rosa Athieno Amoth on Saturday, November 17.

The deceased was the mother of the acting director general of Health, Patrick Amoth.

Opiyo Wandayi, the minority leader in the National Assembly, predicted that the political uprising that is brewing in the former prime minister’s backyard but will soon be crushed

He urged anyone who disagreed with the ODM party boss’s leadership to quit and start new political organizations.

“We want to assure you that any such rebellion will be crushed convincingly. If you feel you have the capacity to challenge ODM, please go ahead and form your own party,” Wandayi said.

Wandayi’s remarks were echoed by Siaya Governor James Orengo who insisted that the ODM chief must be respected.

“We shall not accept a few people to undermine Raila Odinga, leaders from both the national and county governments must respect him,” Orengo said.

Orengo said there was no political vacuum in the region’s political leadership, further asking those seeking favours from the Kenya Kwanza government to do so with respect.

“We want to work together to bring development in every region.

Since the ODM party leader’s loss to William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza in the presidential vote in August, some leaders from the Nyanza and Western regions have switched allegiances to the government, with some claiming it was time for Raila to step down from active politics after running unsuccessfully for the position of the nation’s top seat five times.

Eliud Owalo, the ICT CS, has been Ruto’s key emissary as he attempts to court the locals in the area.

Owalo, Ruto’s point man during campaigns in the Nyanza region, stated that the election was over, and the community needed to move on and chart their destiny.
