Al-Shabaab attack in Garissa County leaves four KeNHA (Kenya National Highways Authority) engineers dead.
On Wednesday morning, suspected Al-Shabaab militants ambushed a convoy of Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) engineers on the Old Lapset Road in Garissa.
The engineers were traveling in a convoy of three vehicles from Garissa to Hailey Chinese Camp and then on to Bura East as part of a routine evaluation of the route.
According to reports, the suspected Al-Shabaab fighters planted an IED on the road, which exploded as the convoy went by.
The attack claimed the lives of four engineers, with the fourth person’s body believed to have been completely destroyed in the vehicle.
The area deputy police boss Thomas Bett confirmed the incident.
One of the cars, a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin was entirely damaged in the blast while the rest turned to Hailey camp after the attack.

This is not the first time that the Old Lapsset Road has been targeted by Al-Shabaab militants.
In January last year, at least eight vehicles operating at the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) highway project were set on fire by suspected Al-Shabaab terrorists.
