Government asks parents to be cautious of private schools advertising to offer Junior Secondary School education.

The government has warned private schools against admission and collection of fees for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) before they are approved by the Ministry of Education.

Peter Magiri, the director of education for Mombasa County, issued the warning as news broke that no school had, as of yet, acquired permission from the government through the Education Ministry to provide JSS.

Speaking to the media yesterday at his office at the Uhuru Na Kazi Building, Magiri advised parents to be wary of private schools advertising that they are authorized to offer JSS.

“Some private schools are cunning, I have seen many with banners saying they have been registered to offer JSS. As we are speaking now, there is no school that has been given the go-ahead to provide JSS,” said Magiri.

Even though he claims the government will not compromise on quality in authorizing private schools to provide JSS, the education official claimed they were counting on the private schools to ensure the government’s 100% transition policy is achieved.

“Don’t be in a hurry, wait for the government to publish all approved schools so that you get information and be advised accordingly.
