Uhuru's ally and nominated MP Sabina Chege dismisses Raila's protests as she declares full support for President Ruto

Uhuru’s ally and nominated MP Sabina Chege dismisses Raila’s protests as she declares full support for President Ruto.

Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege announced on Friday, January 27, that she would not participate in the protest marches planned by the Azimio la Umoja faction in opposition to the actions of the current administration.

The politician from the Jubilee Party said she was prepared to cooperate with and support President William Ruto’s administration while speaking to mourners at a funeral in Murang’a County.

She said that her regard for the president and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, was demonstrated by the meeting between President Ruto and Jubilee’s elected leaders on Monday, January 23.

Sabina Chege, who was Uhuru’s ally in the August polls declared her support for Gachagua, affirming that he was the de facto leader of her Mount Kenya region.

“This past week, I went to State House. I got there before every one of you – because I respect anointment and elected leaders.

“At the moment, the region’s leader is Rigathi Gachagua, and we must support him,” she stated.

While addressing the specifics of the talks at State House with President Ruto, the MP reaffirmed that they had negotiated on behalf of the communities to secure funding for development initiatives begun under the past administration.

Chege added that Ruto’s assurance that officials appointed by the administration of Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta who are from the Mount Kenya region will keep their jobs was obtained during the meeting.

“We had a meeting discussing the welfare of our community and the projects started in the past regime because we still need the roads.

“We also agreed that our people in various would not lose their positions because they were serving the government of the day,” she noted.

Her remarks came amid increased efforts by Azimio leader, Raila Odinga, to rally his supporters in backing the planned rallies in different parts of the country.

Chege’s stance on the rallies exposed cracks within the party led by Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.

The former Ndaragwa MP has been actively involved in Azimio’s latest protest against the alleged rigging of the August General Election.

In an interview with local media, Kioni stated that his party would “stop at nothing” in its pursuit of justice and answers regarding the outcome of the last election.
