Chelsea plots a late move for Leeds United talisman Raphinha

Raphinha, the Brazilian international has been the standout performer for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season

Chelsea are preparing to make a late move for Raphinha, Leeds’ prized asset, and could do so before the January 31 deadline.

Thomas Tuchel, according to reports in Football.London, is pondering an ambitious effort to entice Raphinha away from Elland Road, where he was sent off during Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Ecuador on Thursday.

Last summer, the flamboyant winger drew interest from Liverpool, but he turned down the transfer and vowed his future to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Raphinha’s agent, former Portugal and Barcelona star Deco, claimed last month that the Brazilian wants to play ‘at the greatest level’ ahead of the winter transfer window.

Despite a strong start to the season, Chelsea’s erratic play in recent months has caused them to falter, with the Blues now trailing Man City by ten points.

A move for Leeds’ talisman might reinvigorate their season as they seek to maintain their Champions League title and defeat Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

Raphinha’s signing would give Chelsea the upper hand over West Ham, who, according to The Guardian, had recently approached the midfielder.

The fact that Premier League clubs are sniffing around Leeds’ best player reflects how much the team needs to improve on the field next season.

After a successful return to the Premier League last season, the Whites have struggled this season and have flirted with relegation, which is still a possibility if they are not careful.

Raphinha and other mercurial talents will only stay at Elland Road if the team demonstrates a desire to compete at a higher level.
