Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza challenges MCAs to proceed with a second impeachment motion.

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has dared Members of the Meru County Assembly to table an impeachment motion against her for the second time.

Speaking on Saturday, Mwangaza said the plot by the MCAs to oust her will once again fail as they have no grounds.

She claimed that the MCAs are being pushed by a certain political party which she did not mention.

While insinuating that the move is a political witch hunt sponsored by her rivals Mwangaza urged the MCAs to thoroughly scrutinize and ensure the grounds are justifiable before tabling such a motion.

“Kuna watu wamesikia habari za impeachment, the governor is being impeached again. I’ve talked to several MCAs nisikie what is the problem because after the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua ambaye alipatiwa nafasi na president wetu kutuunganisha na kutuweka pamoja, we have been working together for more than five months but of late two weeks ago tumesikia mambo tena. After calling several MCAs wameniambia ya kwamba imesukumwa na vyama.

“Ningeomba hivi ata kama watu wanatafuta impeachment you can’t get an answer minus a formula, huwezi eka impeachment ambaye haina grounds. Tungependa pia kama wameru tujue what are the grounds ambazo zinalead to impeachment,” she added.

The embattled governor, however, expressed optimism that the motion will once again fail terribly since there are no justifiable grounds.

She also faulted the move on a section of leaders whom she believes are positioning themselves to succeed her in the 2027 election.

She went on to ask the governors not to distract her from her race to serve the people of Meru County.

“The few noises sio ya wananchi wa kawaida but a few leaders who are preparing for 2027 General Election. Kuna watu hawajaamini kwamba Governor wa Meru ni Mama nashukuru Mungu kwa vile alinipatia uongozi…sisi kama county ya Meru tumekuwa na kazi ambazo zinaonekana,” Mwangaza added.

The first-term Governor survived an impeachment attempt in the Senate on December 30, 2022.

The MCAs alleged in the first impeachment motion last year that Mwangaza was exceeding her authority by refusing to award the ward development fund.

The claims were however dismissed by the Senate after a special committee probed the impeachment motion.
