A chief kills self in Nandi after reportedly finding his wife in the act, in a lodging, with a police officer.
The administrator, Charles Kogei, 42, a chief for Ndurio location in the Aldai sub-county died at a private hospital in Kapsabet on Monday evening.
Douglas Chikanda, Nandi County Criminal Investigation Officer, confirmed the incident and described it as a love triangle involving one of his officers and the chief’s wife, who is a mother of four.
“It is a saddening case of suicide. We have indeed lost the chief. It is a case of a love triangle involving one of my officers and the chief’s wife. Preliminary probe indicates that the incident led to chief to take his life,” Chikanda said.
The officer, who is stationed at Kobujoi police station had visited the chief’s wife at Sereme Town lodging, Nandi County on Monday evening.
The 42-year-old chief was shocked to find his wife and the police officer involved in the act.
A family member, who spoke to the police, disclosed that Kogei consumed a glass of pesticide, identified as ‘Round Up’ following the shock.

“After the discovery, he drove to his home picked the pesticide, and drank.”
“We rushed him to hospital but died as he was receiving treatment at White Crescent Nursing Home,” the family member said.
A junior police officer, who sought anonymity, confirmed that the officer in question was his colleague.
He said the officer was known to have a relationship with the chief’s wife.
The officer, who accompanied the family to the hospital, said the chief took poison after the incident.
Detectives in Nandi County have launched investigations to uncover the details surrounding the situation.
The officer has since been sent on compulsory leave pending a probe into the matter.
