Following their raid on a home in the Kisumu East neighborhood, four police officers from the Kasagam Police Station in Kisumu County were on Friday the target of mob punishment by enraged locals.
A police report states that the officers carried out an operation in the area to apprehend people who were selling illegal beer after acting on a tip.
However, Kisumu residents raised the alarm and gathered at the home, surrounding the four officers who had arrived on board a police van.
The officers were challenged by the enraged crowd, who insisted they go back to the station.
Three of the officers managed to escape from the melee, while one of them sustained dire injuries after being assaulted by the mob.
“One of the officers sustained two deep cuts on the head, two cuts on the left cheek below his eyes and swollen right cheek,” read part of the report.
