An intoxicated police officer is on the run in Nyeri after shooting his superior who relieved from duty.
According to reports, the suspect who was briefly held after being disarmed is said to have escaped to an unknown location on a private vehicle which he flagged down.
A police report on the incident indicated the suspect attached to a Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation facility allegedly shot at IP Charles Kariuki Mwangi during change over injuring him.
Police said IP Mwangi had ordered the drunk officer to get back to the vehicle as arrangements were being made to replace him.

“The officer boarded the vehicle and shot three bullets from his CZ rifle s/no. ap432913 while aiming Inspector Charles Mwangi, unfortunately, two bullets hit the officer one at the right hand and the other at the waist which lodged in the body,” read a police report.
The injured officer was rushed to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Police said he was in stable condition.
Meanwhile, directives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from Kieni West are investigating the incident.
