Police in Matuu Police Station in Machakos County launch investigations after a man allegedly set his house on fire with himself and his wife still inside.
The main is said to have locked the house from inside using a padlock, and hidden the keys in his pocket, before lighting up a gas cooker and then a mattress.

A huge fire then engulfed the home while the couple was inside, causing the wife to raise the alarm.
According to area village elder Peter Mutungi, neighbours responded immediately and broke into the house through the window, rescuing both the man and his wife.
Mutungi however confirmed that the couple’s house was burnt to ashes in the process.
Matuu Police Station OCS Peter Mugambi confirmed that the man is currently being questioned.
