DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigations) detectives arrested in Tanzania for being in the country illegally.
According to a police report, the five officers were following up on a motor vehicle theft syndicate from Nairobi to Tanzania when they crossed the Kenyan border and entered Tanzanian territory.
The detectives had already arrested one Kenyan man over alleged involvement in the syndicate.
He led them to the border with hopes of finding his accomplice, a Tanzania national.
According to the report, the officers believed that the Tanzanian man’s role in the syndicate was to receive the stolen motor vehicles from Kenya.
The Tanzanian suspect, however, raised the alarm that caught the attention of area-based officers who were on patrol.

They quickly rushed to the scene and arrested the officers for the offence of being in the Tanzanian territory illegally.
Thus, the five officers and two suspects were arrested and taken to Tarakea Police Station.
Efforts by the DCIO Kajiado South to negotiate with the Tanzanian police for the release of the Kenyan officers have proved futile.
It has now emerged that the officers have been moved to Rombo Mkuu District headquarters.
“The Subcounty security intelligence team is following up on the issue so that the officers can be released,” the police report read in part.
