The Kenya Met Department has warned of extremely cold temperatures of less than 10° Celsius in six counties.
In a statement on Monday, June 3, the weatherman said the cold temperatures will be experienced in Nyandarua, Narok, Nakuru, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Murang’a counties for the next one week.
The Met Department noted that rainfall amounts exceeding 50mm is expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley while the rest of the country would be generally dry.
“Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts the highlands east and west of the Rift Valley the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley,” read the forecast in part.
The weatherman also warned of maximum temperatures exceeding 35°C in parts of Turkana, Mandera, and Samburu Counties during the forecast period.

Further, the Met Department announced that Winds of more than 25 knots (12.9m/s) are expected over parts of Turkana, Mandera, Marsabit, Lamu, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, and Kilifi Counties.
“These winds are strong enough and able to blow dust, especially over bare grounds. The blown dust may increase the risk of respiratory infections e.g. Cold and flu diseases.
“These diseases are quite common during dry weather conditions. Residents are advised to be on the lookout for such diseases and take necessary protective measures,” the weatherman advised.
