Five ODM politicians are set to join Ruto government for the cabinet positions without Raila blessing.

According to Daily Nation, the confusion that has rocked the ODM party regarding the proposed deal between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga.

This is after Raila’s party has yet to decide whether to accept the five Cabinet slots Ruto reportedly offered as part of the government of national unity deal.

ODM divisions are said to have delayed presenting the party’s names of Cabinet hopefuls to Dr Ruto.

A senior ODM official said some party stalwarts could accept Ruto’s Cabinet offers without Raila’s blessing.

“The way things are looking my brother, I’m telling you some people will grab these Cabinet slots,” the official said.

Some ODM officials being touted for Cabinet slots are deputy party leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, as well as national chairman John Mbadi.

This comes after the Former prime minister Raila Odinga made a U-turn on Sunday, issuing six new demands to President William Ruto regarding the planned national dialogue forum.

Raila issued a statement backing Gen Z’s position, saying the government must address several issues before dialogue can begin.

The ODM leader wants the welfare of health workers and Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers addressed. He has also called for the scrapping of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and a return to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) scheme.

The other preconditions are compensation for victims of police brutality during the anti-government demos, the dropping of all protest-related cases, and the release of all the people who were abducted and detained during the protests.

The former prime minister also called for the prosecution of security agents who were involved in atrocities against protesters.

Raila said that once all the six issues have been addressed, a national conversation can be held at a neutral venue.

“We can focus on a national conversation conducted transparently in a neutral venue. It is my proposal that representatives for this convention should come from various sectors including youth, government, religious leaders, health care professionals, lawyers, and teachers,” he added.
