Sakaja evacuated to safety from Toi Market in Kibra after angry residents heckled and stoned him.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja was on Saturday forced to seek refuge after a section of angry Kibera residents resorted to pelting him with stones.

The Nairobi governor had paid a visit to the Toi market where four people reportedly died after a mysterious fire razed down several stalls and houses within the market.

A group of angry residents were depicted pelting stones at the governor as they chanted his name.

As the incident escalated, Sakaja’s security guards were forced to shield the county chief as he was being ushered away from the area.

Governor Sakaja was whisked away to his car before being driven away. During the incident, the residents accused him of managing the county poorly.

During his visit to the market, Governor Sakaja promised to utilize the county disaster funds to compensate affected traders.

The latest incident comes hardly hours after several stalls at Toi market were incinerated in an early morning incident in what is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
