Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has told leaders to decide whether to side with the youth or back President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking at a church service in Makongeni on Sunday, August 11, the leaders led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka accused Raila of abandoning the Kenyan people’s struggle by aligning with the current administration.
Kalonzo said leaders should not appear to be attempting to please both sides.
“You are either with Gen Zs and the Kenyan people or with Zakayo, it is as simple as that. There is no two way about it,” he said.
In addition, Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa said the ODM party cannot be in the opposition and still support the government.
Wamalwa said the rest of Azimio’s leadership remains committed to supporting the Gen Z push for accountability and transparency.
“We are here to tell you today, the Gen Zs of this county and of this country, that you are not alone, even if you feel betrayed, you are not alone, we stand with you. We are saying you cannot have both,” Wamalwa said.
Ruto, speaking in Iriari, Runyenjes, Embu County during a tour of Mt Kenya region last week joked that he formed a broad-based government partly because he does not want to be called Zakayo alone.
“If it’s debts, let’s pay together. If it’s taxes, let’s look for it together. I should not be called Zakayo, alone. Let’s all plan how to get taxes for Kenya,” the President stated.
In February, Ruto said he has no problem being referred to as Zakayo stating that it is better than letting the country sink into debt.
Addressing the faithful on Sunday, Kalonzo said leaders from the Opposition who joined the Kenya Kwanza administration should know that it is the President who calls all the shots.
“Those who joined him, I want them to understand that they might have been given the powers, yes, but the real Cabinet Secretary for Energy, National Treasury, Cooperatives and Mining and Blue Economy is Ruto,” he said.

He said the youth should stand firm and stop the country from going down the drain.
“Time has come for liberation thanks to the revolutionary stand of young Kenyans who have said a few people cannot destroy the country as they watch,” he added.
He criticised the government for “stopping protests using tear gas and bullets.”
“Protests have been stopped by teargas and bullets. We cannot say all is well. The fact there are no protests does not mean all is well,” he explained.
Kalonzo added that Bangladeshi people have taken some very drastic measures because people got to the point where they wanted their concerns addressed by all means.
