Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has opened up on why he always wears a durag.
In a statement via his X page on Friday, August 30, Wajackoyah revealed
that a durag is symbolic and signifies slavery by the Western nations.
Wajackoyah claimed that Kenyans are still enslaved by the West and the leadership of the country.
“My wearing of a durag is symbolic. The choice of color is occasionally informed. I wear a durag because we are still enslaved by the West, by our own conscience, and by the so-called leadership,” said the Roots Party leader.
In the 2022 general election, Wajackoyah ran for the Presidency under the Roots party which supports the legalization of bhang in Kenya.
The 62-year-old professor came in third place behind President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Wajackoyah garnered 61,959 votes and only defeated David Mwaure of the Agano party who got 31,987 votes.
During his campaign trail, Wajackoyah always donned a tracksuit, T-shirt, and a durag rather than a smart suit like the majority of the political class.
Wajackoyah’s promise to turn the Kenyan economy around by exporting bhang, snake venom, dog meat, and hyenas’ testicles made him a talking point on social media and excited many youths.
