Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons, Nicholas Maswai, made the announcement during the opening of the Machakos Prison Mosque, built by donors.
He emphasized that spiritual nourishment is a key reform agenda for both prisoners and staff.

Maswai said the Kenya Prisons Service is ready to provide land for religious institutions, with donors encouraged to support the initiative.
The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the recruitment of muslim Maalims in 2021 and plans to hire more religious leaders from various faiths.
“The Kenya Prisons Service is willing to provide land where we are able for donors who are willing to put up mosques and churches. We are passionate about this and will support those who assist us,” Maswai noted.
