Safaricom announces M-Pesa outage over scheduled system maintenance set to affect its services.

Safaricom has disclosed that all M-Pesa services will be unavailable on Tuesday, September 10, from 11:00 p.m. to Wednesday, September 11, at 3:30 a.m.

In a notice on Tuesday, September 10, the telecommunications company noted that it would be carrying out system maintenance during that time.

“To enable us to continue to give you the best M-PESA experience, we have scheduled a system maintenance on Tuesday, 10th September 2024, from 11:00 PM to Wednesday, 11th September 3:30 AM. During this maintenance, all M-PESA services will be unavailable,” read part of the notice.

However, Safaricom affirmed that all other services including calls, data and SMS will remain available as usual.

It added that the timing of the maintenance was planned to result in the least convenience to its customers.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for supporting us to be the country’s leading provider,” Safaricom remarked.

On Sunday, August 11, the telco giant had a similar maintenance which affected access to Lipa na M-PESA Paybill and Buy Goods services, International money transfers (Western Union), M-PESA Global, as well as M-PESA and mySafaricom Apps.

According to Safaricom, the maintenance was due to the need for innovation and enhancement of its services to connect customers with endless possibilities.

The company boasts over 30 million active M-Pesa users in Kenya and more than 50 million across Africa.
